An engineering firm was installing new cooling equipment in a municipal ice rink’s mechanical room. The challenge was to design the equipment install without tearing out the old equipment first and to install elements and piping around the current equipment configuration to limit downtime of the facility. They turned to 3D scanning services to map the entire room in 3D.

Scanning Bike and Rider for the Windiest Conditions
The Company: The company is a major manufacturer of high-tech bicycles with a worldwide distributorship and many professional endorsements. Their mission is to promote bike riding through innovative products and exceptional care for their dealers and customers. The Challenge: In their ongoing quest to improve the efficiency and aerodynamics of their bikes, company engineers have been testing them in a wind tunnel since 2000. The goal is to improve design to reduce drag, so the same amount of power will
Digitally Archiving Museum of the Bible’s Collection
SITUATION Collectors of artifacts and other archeological finds know that the stewardship and preservation of their finds are just as important as finding them at all. While the science of restoration is always improving, the chemical processes that cause corrosion and deterioration of physical parts is unavoidable and oftentimes accelerated once an artifact is unearthed. The Museum of the Bible, a nonprofit museum in Washington, D.C., acquired their first biblical artifact in 2009, and since then has grown to a
Artec Scanner Overview
In this video/webinar, our Laser Design Engineer for Artec scanning systems will present an overview of the Artec Eva, Artec Spider, and Artec Studio software. You’ll learn specifications of each system, best practices, scanning examples in Artec Studio, and common applications for the systems. Have additional questions? DeskTOM CT Scanner
The RX-Solutions DeskTom CT Scanner is an x-ray inspection machine with computed tomography (CT) allowing collection of complex internal and external geometry. See it in Action!
How to 3D body scan with Artec Eva
A tutorial on body scanning with Artec Eva handheld 3D scanner, covering the basics and advanced features.
3D Scanning of Mechanical Room
Long range/ Terrestrial 3D scanning is a ground-based technique for collecting high-density spatial imaging with millions of coordinates quickly and accurately. Using highly accurate, photo realistic 3D scan data generated with Longe range/ Terrestrial scanning you are able to view as-built documentation in a virtual world. The point cloud data can also be surfaced to generate a CAD model which can be used for comparison or reconstruction.
Artec Spider
Artec Spider is a new 3D scanner designed specifically for CAD users and perfect for reverse engineering, product design, quality control and mass production. Together with Artec Studio software, it is a powerful, desktop tool for designers, engineers and inventors of every kind.
CT Scanning
CT scanning helps you capture all surfaces, both external and internal, of complex and free-form parts without damage to the object.
3D Computed Tomography Systems
This video will briefly explain what a 3D Computed Tomography (CT) system is, why it can be used for 3D scanning, and what you can use it for.
Scanning with the Artec portable 3D scanner
The easy-to-use Artec™ 3D scanner gives our customers great low-cost systems with excellent scanning capabilities. High-speed video technology captures three-dimensional full-color textured images and can be used for both motion and still measurements.
What is 3D Scanning?
3D laser scanning is not magical. True, the technologies that make it possible are very advanced and quite amazing. But behind the mirrors – found in the laser probe (without any smoke) – there is a lot of know-how and experience that makes the laser scanning experience seem so easy.
3D Scanning for Inspection
Traditional Metrology can be slow, expensive, labor intensive and imperfect. This video shows the process developed by Laser Design to collect data in 3D with 3D laser scanning.
Scanning an ATV
A leading manufacturer of high quality ATV, snowmobile and motorcycle parts and accessories needed a faster and more accurate way to capture the ATV’s geometry for their part design and development process. Watch as GKS 3D scans an ATV!

New Tricks for Old Dogs: Veterinary Surgical Hip Replacement
This veterinary orthopedic implant company needed a comprehensive training video for its hip replacement surgery but had no digital representation of its product from which to make it. GKS scanned all 27 parts involved, created CAD models, and assembled them to show the exact procedure in the animation.
Racing Seat Scan with Portable Surveyor FA-Series
A high-tech engineering firm designed a mounting system for a specific racing seat in a new product line. To attach the seat to the high force electromechanical rod-style actuators, high-accuracy locations for the mounting holes were needed, along with lower accuracy scanning requirements for the basic contours on the back of the seat.
Face Scanning with Artec 3D scanner
Artec technology was originally developed for biometric access control. It was used in facial recognition systems. That means that the 3D scanners are the perfect tool for scanning the human body and faces in particular. There is no need for electromagnetic tracking, position markers or long set-up. 3D scanning of the face (ear-to-ear) takes less than 10-15 seconds.
3D scanners. Artec digging deep in Moscow
See how Artec 3D scanners were used during archeological explorations at Preobrazhenskaya Square in Moscow.
Artec Scanner – Carburetor Scanning
A carburetor poses similar problems for all 3D scanners on the market: sharp edges, intricate details, and deep crevices. Using the Artec S scanner, however, the operator was able to scan this object in less than 2 hours and the results were impressive.
Artec 3D scanner: Dancing in 3D
Frequently, Artec is approached by animators and bio-mechanical researchers asking if our technology can scan a human body in motion. The answer is, “yes”. This dancing young lady, was showing her moves in front of four synchronized Artec L 3D scanners which captured her at up to 15 frames per second.
