Client:
A bustling Midwestern hospital needed to make design changes to their 2-story boiler room. A new boiler was needed in order to supply the necessary heat output on a daily basis to run the hospital efficiently, especially in cold Midwest winters.
Project:
Having a visual representation in 3D would allow the hospital to make the necessary design changes to accommodate the new boiler. There were 2 floors to the boiler room as well as a pump area at the hospital needing to be scanned.
The Laser Design team sent a technician in with the Leica P30 to capture the spaces in full color. The point cloud data was then modeled with the architectural and structural features, the existing equipment, piping and catwalks. The team used Revit to model the point cloud and saved as an AutoCad .dwg file for use in AutoCAD.
To ensure the hospital was able to get all of the information needed from the point cloud and model, the Laser Design team kept both elements on the same coordinate system. This allowed the client to view the model and the point cloud at the same time and take any measurements they needed.
Results:
The 2-level room was scanned in one full day and modeled in less than a week. The hospital was very pleased with the 3D data they received which allowed them to easily move forward on their needed improvements. Check out the fly through video below!
